Michaela K.K. Houser is the next multi-star athlete to join Sharon Versyp's Boilermakers. Houser excels in three sports -- basketball, softball and track. Through the end of her junior year, Houser is a three-time all-state pick in basketball and was an honorable mention all-state shortstop in softball last fall after hitting .325 with 32 stolen bases and scoring 36 runs. So far in 2008, she has broken the state record in steals in softball. Houser is also a three-time state gold medalist in track as a hurdler and a member of Southeast’s 1,600-meter relay team that broke the state record in 2008 and 2007.
As a junior, Houser averaged 13.4 points, 2.2 rebounds, 4.8 rebounds and 2.9 steals while shooting .374 from the perimeter. Southeast won the Class A State Championship with a record of 25-1.
Houser verballed to Purdue over Michigan State, Iowa State, Iowa and Minnesota on August 4th, 2008, following a campus visit. She had also been offered scholarships by Notre Dame, Creighton, Nebraska and Kansas State. She plans to major in communications. Houser signed with Purdue during the November 2008 early signing period.
Lincoln Southeast head coach John Larsen ..."We needed KK to be more of a scorer as a freshman and sophomore. She still scored a lot of points [her junior season], but she became more of a complete player, and that made our team even better. She initiated everything we did offensively. She's a great ballhandler, she reads the defense well and is capable of scoring. She's just the total package." (March 16, 2008, Omaha World-Herald)
Scouting report by "Huntington"..."Houser's view of he court is quite unique for someone so young. At Showtime, teams were unable to press/trap her or her team due to her always finding the open player (which you must agree is very unusual at this level). She is considered by virtually every coach I talked to among the two or three best points in the country reguardless of class (I don't know of a single top twenty program that didn't have her on their list of kids to watch). Her lack of size (5'6) could be a problem if she wasn't so quick-but she is. She needs to improve her 3 point shot, but her range is more than adequate. She uses both hands, and seems to go to her left with the same ease as she does to her right. And she is aggressively hits the boards, especially on the defensive end. From my perspective, she is at least on par with Skylar Diggins the phenom out of Indiana. Diggins looks to score more, but may not see the floor as well." (September 20, 2006)
