Wilson is a relentless rebounder and lauded for her physical strength. She is also good at handling the ball, which makes her good driving on players. Her skills place her at more either forward, but she has the strength to play low post.
As a junior, Wilson averaged 15.1 points and 7.3 rebounds while making 59.2 percent of her field goal attempts for the season. Wheeling was 28-4, expanding her career high school record to 79-15.
As a sophomore, Wilson averaged 17.6 points and 9.6 rebounds for Wheeling (23-7).
As a freshman, Wilson garnered all-conference and all-area honors with 10.3 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Wheeling finished 28-4 after making it to the Sectional final game. Her strong play as a freshman got her an invite to the adidas Top Ten Underclassmen Camp, where she was named to the camp All-Star team.
Wilson verballed to Purdue on January 6, 2008, and signed during the early signing period on Noverber 12th, 2008. She chose Purdue over offers from Michigan State, Marquette and Wisconsin.
From an opposing Chicago-based AAU coach..."Undersized post who has no real perimeter skills but is tough as nails and a relentless rebounder. She is coming back from two stress fractures, each leg but when healthy, a load to contend with. I mean a load. Physically imposing and causes major matchup problems. Very strong, quick off her feet and a solid defender. Combine Paul Silas and Dennis Rodman and you have Ashley Wilson." (January 7, 2008)
