CLASS OF: 2008 SCHOOL: Bloomington North HS, State HEIGHT AND WEIGHT: 6'3, 189 lbs POSITION: Power Forward 06-07 RATINGS: #37 (DO), #59 (HGZ), #67 (BS) ACADEMICS: --- STATUS: Signed with Purdue on 11/14/07 AAU TEAM: The Family
Guyton, a 6'3, 189-pound power forward from Bloomington North High, committed to the Boilers after recinding her commitment to Michigan following the resignation and retirement of Cheryl Burnett. Guyton soon focused on three new programs -- Purdue, Marquette and Penn State -- following a host of recruiting inquiries following her decommitment from Division I head coaches from Notre Dame, Kentucky, Miami and Indiana. But looking at her reactions during the junior all-star scrimmage in Mackey Arena in June, it was hard for Guyton to hide her enthusiasm over the possibility she could become a Boilermaker.
She should mesh very well with fellow 2008 recruit Brittany Rayburn. Guyton played on the same Indiana's Finest 14-under team with Rayburn in 2005 that won a national championship, before moving to The Family program for 2006 and 2007. Following the 2005 national championship, The Family in 2006 finished with a 6-1 record at Nike Nationals, losing to champion Georgia Metros.
Through three seasons at Bloomington North, Guyton has 792 points, 562 rebounds and 124 blocked shots. She averaged 12.8 points and 2.4 blocked shots as a junior, hitting 54-percent from the field. As a sophomore, she averaged 17.8 points, 12.4 rebounds and 2.3 steals. She is ranked as the 37th-best prospect in the nation by Dan Olsen, 67th by Blue Star, and 59th-best by HoopGurlz.
Guyton verbally committed to Purdue on July 19th, 2007, and signed her letter-of-intent on 11/14/07.
Purdue head coach Sharon Versyp..."Alex is a very athletic and versatile post player with excellent defensive and shot-blocking skills. She loves to play physical, competitive basketball, which is a must to be successful in the Big Ten. Alex's work ethic, competitive nature and heart allow her potential to be endless. Her quickness and athleticism will allow us to run even more and her ability to rebound and be an offensive threat makes her hard to defend. She can post up and score down low or bring you out and hit the 15-foot shot. However, her ability to put the ball on floor, explosively getting to the basket gives her versatility and the potential to be an impact at the highest level. Along with Brittany Rayburn, Alex is considered a leading candidate for Miss Basketball in Indiana." (November 14, 2007)
