Laura Fennechien Garriga Elema was recruited by the Versyp staff a few short months after they hit campus in 2006. Garriga played four years of basketball for a Spanish Federation of Basketball team, the first two on the junior squad. Laura's grandfather and great grandfather both attended Purdue and studied agriculture. She committed to Purdue on August 21, 2006 over offers from Minnesota, New Mexico and Vermont.
Purdue head coach Sharon Versyp..."We're really excited about the addition of Laura to our Boilermaker family.
She's a smart kid who has the versatility to play several positions. Laura has good quickness but isn't afraid to
take it in the paint. We're impressed by her work ethic and her athleticism. The fact that she's an excellent student
is a nice bonus." (August 11, 2006)
Siglo XXI coach Ramon Jordana..."She is a player capable of penetrating and scoring. She has spent a great deal of
time working on her outside shooting in order to become a better perimeter player. On the inside she has a number of
one-on-one moves which enable her to score in the paint. She plays effective defense both on the inside and on the
perimeter." (August 10, 2006)
