2-17-00...No. 6 seed Hun was knocked out of the NJISAA Prep Tournament
by No. 3 Blair, 79-43. Garrity led all Hun scorers with 12 points. Hun
finishes the season at 7-15, with Kevin Garrity their leading scorer
with 15 per game.
2-10-00...Kevin Garrity scored a game-high 23 points to lead Hun over the
Hill School, 58-49. After Hill ran out to a 19-6 lead at the end of the
first quarter, Hun responded with 19 points in the second half including
six from Garrity to pull ahead 28-25 at the half. Hun maintained their
composure through the end of the game. Hun finishes the regular season
with a 7-14 record.
1-14-00...Jay Gomes, who runs the njhoops.com site and publishes a scouting
magazine for college coaches, has this to say about Garrity's skills..."Big
wide body. Massive shoulders. Decent offensive scoring moves in the post.
Could use to improve foot speed and quickness. Will rebound and play post
defense." And from Hun coach Jeff Goodell..."He's got all the tools to do
anything he needs to. He's very strong. He has very big hands. He has all
the physical tools. He has to put the rest of it together. He's got some
nice back-to-the basket moves."
1-11-00...Kevin Garrity is working his way into being the focus of what has
been a very anemic Hun offense over the past few games. Playing three games
in six days, Hun went 1-2 and managed to average just 40.3 points per game
of offense. Over the same period, Garrity leads the team in scoring with a
14.3 point average, scoring 11, 13 and a season high 19 points against Solebury
on Saturday. While the team's overall record now stands at 5-9, it is
interesting to note Hun has played 12 of its first 14 games on the road.
12-29-99...Hun trailed Willingboro 44-41 with just over three minutes remaining
in the game Wednesday night. But two missed freethorws by Garrity followed
by a turnover and four straight missed shots led to Willingsboro holding out
for the 44-43 victory. Garrity led Hun with 15 points.
12-28-99...Usually when a player contributes one-quarter of the scoring for
his team, he is seen as having a good offensive game. That is unless your team only
scores 30 points. Garrity tied with another Hun teammate to score 8 points
each as Trenton's fullcourt pressure defense forced 25 Hun turnovers. Hun's
offense began to click in the second half, but not before Trenton had placed
Hun into a 43-13 hole midway through the third quarter. Hun drops to 4-5 on
the season with the 59-30 loss to Trenton.
12-22-99...Hun finished third in the Augusta Georgia Holiday Tournament,
defeating St. Edwards 71-47. Garrity had a game high 15 points in the win.
12-12-99...Garrity had a team high 12 points as Hun fell to Lawrenceville
64-51 in the consolation game of the Peddie Invitational Tournament. Hun
went 0-2 for the tournament, losing to St. Benedict's on Friday night.
12-08-99...Kevin Garrity scored 12 of his 19 points in the first half to
help the Hun School boys' basketball team open a 24-point halftime lead
in cruising past Morristown-Beard, 57-36. Garrity also added 16 rebounds.
12-03-99...The Hun School is expecting big things from Garrity, as this
Princeton Packet article talks about their new 7'0 center.
11-13-99...Purdue has added what Coach Keady refers to as a prototype center
with a world of potential. Sounds like most of Keady's past all-american center
recruits when they sign, right? That optimism is real, as Purdue got a signed
LOI from 6'11, 260-pound center Kevin Garrity this past week. "Kevin is a center
that is just starting to tap his potential," according to Keady. "He has good
size, good speed, good hands, is a very good student and we’re excited about a
big man coming into our program that has a chance to become a true Big Ten center."

Athletics page.
10-08-99...Bob Gibbons is reporting, citing the Indianapolis Star, that Kevin Garrity
has verbally committed to Purdue...again. But Garrity is nowhere to be found,
said to be out of town until after the weekend. Since the information has been rather
loose in relation to Garrity in the past, we are not going to call it official
until we hear him say it. Meanwhile, Gibbons is listing Garrity just outside the top
100, and calls him "a strong, powerful, obviously large post player, with mobility,
good hands, and effective low post offensive abilities. He is a "prototype Big Ten
center"..." More on Garrity in Gibbons' latest update, where he speculates this is
Garrity's final decision. As soon as we hear from Garrity himself, we will
announce it as official and update the scholarship page and add him to the front
page.
10-05-99...Garrity still has Purdue sitting atop his list, but is also still
looking around. An update in this Indianapolis Star article.
9-04-99...According to FastBreak Recruiting, Garrity currently has
Purdue, Marist, La Salle and Fairfield sharing the top of his list. For
a brief overview of the other three teams check out this article on the
competition.
9-01-99...In an email today from Kevin Garrity, he denied making
a commitment to Monmouth and says he is still open with Purdue on his short
list. "Purdue University is still at the top of the short list of schools I
am considering," wrote Garrity. He plans on hosting Gene Keady on September
9th, following up with a campus visit on the 11th and 12th. As in the case
of the Zach Randolph rumors, everything should be taken as "rumored" on the
internet until someone actually talks to the prospect.
8-31-99...Reports on a few sites are claiming Garrity has made a verbal commitment
to Monmouth in New Jersey. If true, it further illustrates the idea that there
is no such thing as a "soft commitment", as claimed Garrity gave Purdue by a few
sources.
7-28-99...Russ Blake of the Insider's Report sends us his impressions of center
Kevin Garrity, who currently has Purdue at the top of his list..."One thing
he's got is size -- he's a legit 6'9+, 245-250 pounds. He passes the look test
all right, but the play test leaves you feeling a bit more ambiguous. I've
never seen Kevin dominate AAU games, even though he typically towers over and
outweighs his counterparts by quite a bit. His offensive skills are just OK,
and he is not going to dazzle you with any athleticism or above the rim play.
In essence, he's a clog the middle type center with decent mobility. I could
see him wind up in the WWF before the NBA, unless of course he improves
significantly in his senior year and college. Garrity will actually be a fifth
year senior this fall, and as a result, he is leaving Wardlaw Hartridge (where
he has no eligibility left) to attend the Hun School in Princeton."
6-29-99...Here's a list of Garrity's stats from his play the past few days
at the Olympic Training Center...

6-25-99...In our news section last week, we mentioned the persistent rumor that
Purdue was close to getting a verbal commitment from a big man from a New Jersey
prep school. That player was identified today as 6'11 250lb center Kevin Garrity
from Wardlaw-Hartridge Prep in North Brunswick, NJ. Although he has Purdue currently
as his top pick, he has yet to drop out of the recruiting race and will continue
to look at other schools. Garrity is currently at the Olympic Training Center in
Colorado with the USA Basketball Development League and will be playing games this
weekend. For updates on the festival, check out the USA Basketball website. A
profile on Garrity is in the works, and we will attempt to give you information on
how his visits to other school go this summer and fall. Garrity is rated at #28 by
Insiders Report and is among the top centers in the country. His junior season numbers
were 14 points, 15 rebounds and 4 blocks for Wardlaw-Hartridge Prep. According to the
list Garrity gave Insiders Report, Purdue now tops a list that also includes Duquesne,
Fordham, Notre Dame, Rutgers, Syracuse, Villanova, West Virginia, LaSalle, Xavier,
Penn State, Delaware and East Carolina. We know he has taken an official visit to
Rutgers, but has yet to visit Purdue.
