Player Summary

Krunti Hester is a good sized power forward from Indianapolis Brebeuf Prep. He has a good body and can bang with the big men, but it frequently double-teamed in the post. Ideal position in college would be out as a forward, but he has to find an outside shot. Right now, a man caught playing center because of need. Started his prep career with big numbers his freshman season, but has been no secret to defenses since then. Should spend a lot of time in the summer working on his shot outside of 12 feet. Interior defense is solid and he has good timing on his blocking ability and long arms. The potential is definitely there though. Frequently fouls out of games which tends to put a quick limit on his offensive numbers. A very capable 20+ point scorer when not being beat up in the paint by a double team. A host of schools are trying to get involved with Hester including Evansville and Indiana State. He has been offered scholarships by Marquette, Ball State and Bowling Green. He has been scouted by Purdue and Indiana, but interest has been light. Marquette has received unofficial visits and may be the leader at this point. Hester committed to Marquette on 5/7/98.

Current Player News

5-8-98...Hester has verbally committed to Marquette, canceling an upcoming visit to Bowling Green. Hester is projected as a post player. 4-30-98...Hester will be playing in Mackey Arena this weekend along with his AAU team "No Excuses". No Excuses early games are on FRI 6:00P Court 1 (Mackey), FRI 9:00P Court 9 (Co-Rec) and SAT 2:00P Court 3 (IAF). 4-16-98...Hester will be traveling to Marquette this weekend for an unofficial visit. Marquette, along with Miami of Ohio, have already offered Hester, but he says he has no timetable as to when he will make a decision. He did say it is possible that on his trip to Marquette this weekend that he could verbal if he felt it would be the right decision. Both Indiana and Purdue seem to still be in contact, but he says Marquette and Miami (OH) are heavily involved. He has taken plenty of visits over his high school career to both IU and Purdue. He visited Purdue during an Athletes In Action exhibition game, and later attended Mackey Magic. He has also visited IU on four occassions, and during the IU/Wisconsin game he was given a tour of the facilities. He is on track to academically qualify. He has a solid GPA and shouldn't be in trouble there. Krunti will be playing this summer on one of the more talented AAU teams in the state, Indianapolis based "No Excuses", coached by Gary Betts. The team will also feature point guards Jason Gardner (North Central) and 5'10 Brody Boyd (Union); 2-guards 6'5 Gavin Groninger (Plainfield), 6'2 Brennon Clemmons (Northwest), 6'1 Phil Brown (Cathedral) and 6'4 Michael Bennett (Brebeuf); forwards 6'5 John Miles (Roncalli) and 6'8 Zach Randolph (Marion); and 7'0 center John Stewart (Lawrence North). No Excuses will be in attendance for the Spiece tournament May 1st at Purdue. NEW! 4-15-98...A scouting report on Krunti..."An observation I have made about Krunti is that he either needs to grow 2 inches to be a dominant post player in college, or he needs to learn how to play without his back to the basket without traveling. If he could do either one, he will have a much better year next year, for he becomes very frustrated when he is double or triple teamed, and adjusting his skills may aid in his development. If he does end up at Purdue somehow, Keady could do wonders with him especially since Hester is amazingly strong for never taking weights very seriously." (scouting report by annonymous) 11-26-97...A 97-98 season preview by the Indianapolis Star. 11-18-97...The Brebeuf Braves should drastically improve on their 10-13 record of last season as they return 7 lettermen and get the services of Krunti Hester for the full season. The Brave made an impressive 6-win run at the end of the season until they were bounced in the sectional finals by 4A Ben Davis. Brebeuf is now classified in the class system as a 3A school and will play in the Plainfield sectional. Early teams to beat look to be Indianapolis Cathedral and Plainfield. Hester will anchor this team, but will be supported by senior guard Mike Comparato (11.1 ppg) and sophomore guard Mike Bennett (9.1 ppg, 3.2 rpg). 1-13-97...After sitting out a majority of the beginning of the season due to a stress fracture, Hester returned to the floor in Brebeuf's first round game of the Marion County Tournament. He saw limited time in the 64-54 win over Park Tudor, and finished with just 5 points.
