7-13-95...Epps was in attendance at the Nike All-Star Camp in
Indianapolis and some were able to get a look at him. Although I haven't
heard anything more than a rumor that he is on our list, it makes sense.
Keady is looking for a big man, plus he is at MCI currently, which has to
please Keady.
Epps is described as a strong inside player with very good post
defense, and decent offense. In the gold game which featured the camps top
talent, Epps seemed comfortable just playing the post. He was not flashy
(discounting his reverse slam off a rebound), but did get the job done.
Unlike most of the other big men, he did not want to dribble the ball all
the time.
8-28-95...My attempts to ask the r.s.bb.c community about Epps
has been interesting to say the least. The most credible source that I
have says that he is a projected academic qualifier and not an overall
great athlete. He does have some moves and continues to polish his
game. He is a native of Kingstree, South Carolina and is said to be
considering Clemson and some other southern schools. Some guy actually
said he was starting for North Carolina next year (fat chance since he is
enrolled in prep school).
9-21-95...In an interview, Gene Keady commented that Purdue was
interested in a big-man from a northeastern prep school. But the player
expressed little interest in the Purdue program, so they discontinued
recruiting the player. Sounds alot like Epps.
10-13-95...From r.s.bb.c...Isiah Epps told reporters and coaches
that he will commit to UNLV as soon as he tells the other coaches
recruiting him he has not chosen them. Epps chose UNLV instead of North
Carolina, Pittsburg, Connecticut and Maryland. Epps will join another
top 30 player in Donovan Stewart a 6'5 swingman from Connecticut for the
96-97 recruiting class. New UNLV coach Bill Bayno plans on signing two
more top 30 players. Epps will attend UNLV's Halloween Hoops practice
on the 28th.
