David Teague is a proven winner from a proven high school program, Pike High
in Indianapolis. A two-year starter for Pike, Teague averaged 15.3 points and
4.7 rebounds for the Class 4A state champs. He has only been playing
basketball for a couple years, one reason why he chose to attend prep school
before joining the Boilers. He was cut from his freshman and sophomore teams,
the came out with a 35-point effort in his first game on the junior varsity
as a junior. He was immediately bumped up to varsity, where he remained for the
rest of his high school career. A great outside shooter and defensive player,
Teague has long arms and has to be guarded closely in the open court. Possesses
a nice, rounded game that fills up stats in most categories. A solid player
who should only continue to improve with experience. Weaknesses include
decisionmaking, and his shot from the line will be a sore spot with Keady
unless he can drastically improve his senior year percentage of 55-percent.
Teague will spend next season polishing his skills at Bridgton Academy Prep School
before joining the Boilermakers in 2002-03. Bridgton Academy will give Teague and
excellent opportunity to hone his skills. Bridgton plays in the Class A division
of the New England Prep School league, a league consisting of national prep
powers Winchendon School, St. Thomas More and Maine Central Institute. Bridgton
finished 26-6 this past season, losing to St. Thomas More in overtime in the
championship game of the NEPSAC tournament.
David Teague committed to Purdue on April 7, 2001. He can sign a letter-of-intent
now, but it will be non-binding unless he signs a new one during the fall signing
period. Teague received scholarship offers from Bowling Green, Southern Illinois
and Drake with interest from Tennessee-Martin, Central Michigan and other MAC
schools.
Teague officially signed with Purdue during the early signing period in
November of 2001.
11-21-01...Keady's 2001-2002 recruiting class is now officially complete. Purdue
has received an LOI from each verballed player making them official Boilermakers.
Congratulations to the players and the coaching staff for another top 25 caliber
class, rated as such by both Van Coleman and Bob Gibbons.

Jose Mikulas, 6'6 Forward

Dave Teague, 6'5 Guard
Laurence Metz, 6'2 Guard
Danny Boyle, 6'1 Guard
Jonathon Bluitt, 5'9 Guard

6-24-01...The Indiana All-Star team protected the home court on Saturday by
defeating the Kentucky All-Stars 107-91. Brandon McKnight finished with nine
points, four rebounds, four assists and one turnover, while David Teague had
14 points, one rebound, two assists and three steals.
6-17-01...The Kentucky All-Stars defeated the Indiana All-Stars in Owensboro (KY)
on Saturday, 103-90. However they didn't succeed in the expected fashion. The
Kentucky interior duo of 6'8 Brian Thornton and 6'9 Brandon Bender did not dominate
as expected. Rather, it was a combination of wing and guard play, and a cohesive
team effort that doomed Indiana. Bender and Thornton came into the game averaging a
total of 38.3 points and 24.3 rebounds per game, but could contribute only a total
of 14 points and 10 rebounds on Saturday. Louisville signee Larry O'Bannon led
Kentucky with 23 points, and game MVP Patrick Sparks added 15 points and led a
crucial run early in the second half to break the backs of the Indiana players.
Sparks picked off three stray passes in a row and took them in for layups as the
game went from a one-point contest at the half to an immediate seven-point Kentucky
advantage. Kentucky would later expand that lead to 14 points. Late in the second
half, Indiana made a run that cut the lead back to seven points, but poor game
decisions returned and Kentucky expanded the margin back to a final 13-point
victory. Indiana Mr. Basketball Chris Thomas had a below average game by his
standards, although his statline was helped by a scoring outburst in the final
couple of minutes that included two shots from the perimeter. Purdue recruits
Brandon McKnight and David Teague had a couple of average performances,
overshadowed by typical all-star team lack of chemistry and severe lack of a
defensive plan. The Indiana team fell apart in the second half, frequently
leaving baseline perimeter shooters wide open, and on offense, coming down
the floor with no offensive rebounders in place and hoisting up 23-footers
off the dribble. McKnight finished with eight points and three assists. Two
more assists should have been added to his numbers, but great passes in traffic
to teammates when for nothing as the players chose to bypass wide open shots
only to dribble into the heart of the Kentucky defense to get their shots blocked.
Teague had a solid first half, sinking consecutive three-point shots and hitting
3-of-4 shots from the line. Teague can really run the floor and showed a nice
perimeter shot from the arc. However, an attempt from three-feet beyond the
line came up short. You get the idea that both McKnight and Thomas need to be
given the green light to score more in game two, and a better defensive plan
must be found. The other Indiana player that should be mentioned is Chris
Hill, who finished with 15 points. Very solid, almost invisible game at times.
He just got the job done.
4-27-01...The Fort Wayne News Sentinel has an article on the recruiting efforts
of Purdue and Indiana. Keady told Pete DiPrimio, "Big guards are a priority,
but more important, big rebounders are." Among the usual suspects of David
Teague, Seth Colclasure, Matt Kiefer, and Sylvester Mayes, the article also
mentioned class of 2002 guard Derrick Graham of South Bend Washington, high
school teammate of Darmetreis Kilgore.
3-27-01...Purdue's interest in senior David Teague of Indianapolis Pike may
continue if he chooses to go to prep school next season, rather than accept
a scholarship offer from Bowling Green or Central Michigan. Teague helped
Pike to another 4A IHSAA state championship on Saturday with 16 points, six
rebounds, two assists and four steals. He is averaging 15.3 points this
season, only his second season on varsity.
Scouting report by Gene Keady..."David's one of the biggest guards in the country.
He's a good 3-point shooter and a very athletic player. He's a special kid because
he went to prep school for a year, even though he qualified academically, so a
scholarship would open here." (11/21/01, Purdue SID)
Scouting report by Van Coleman..."David Teague can really shoot and he
impressed me this summer at how well he handled the ball and got his teammates
into the flow." (11/15/01, Indianapolis Star)
Pike teammate Chris Thomas..."When we played his team in eighth grade, I didn't
even know who he was. I just remember he had a big afro. When we were freshmen,
David was one of the best street-ball players in the school. He didn't have any
fundamentals down, but that's the things that he worked on." (3/26/01, Kokomo
Tribune)
