Chris Hartley arrives at Purdue as an invited walkon from Noblesville
high school. The 6'4 high school post player turned college wing guard
will bring depth to the Boiler guard positions. Hartley played a
multitude of positions in high school for Noblesville, from dominating
post player to ballhandler and perimeter threat. His greatest quality,
as lauded by almost anyone who has ever coached him, is his work ethic
and drive to succeed.
As a senior, Hartley shot 57-percent from the field while averaging
19.4 points, 4 rebounds and 2.6 assists a game for the 18-6 Millers.
The team tied Avon for the Hoosier Crossroads Conference championship.
Chris Hartley was an invited walkon during the summer of 2002 and joined
the Boilers that fall. He plans to major in industrial management.
Scouting report by anonymous..."The first thing you notice about Hartley is
that he plays very well without the basketball, and that fueled his ability to
score at the HS level. He understands how to read his defender. He understands
when and where he was to receive a pass that led to a score (he had teammates
who could deliver him the ball). He has a game with 3pt range, a middle game,
and can finish at the rim at the HS level. Hartley is a mirror of current
walk-on, Andrew Ford. He is a mentally tough player who does little things to
win games. For his HS team, Hartley also did the big things to win games, but
he played in a high school system where toughness, mental and physical, is
rewarded by both coach and teammates. Some Purdue fans have noted how they
like the way [Indiana University's Tom] Coverdale plays. Hartley is a product
of the same high school and coach." (4/14/02, Old Gold Free Press)
Scouting report by AAU coach and former Pacer Billy Keller..."Chris has a
tremendous passion for the game of basketball, and that is demonstrated through
his daily work ethic. He's very fundamentally sound and can do it all...score,
dribble, pass, rebound and defend. Chris was a pleasure to coach."

Scouting report by high school coach David McCollough..."Chris Hartley is
one of the hardest workers and the most consistent players I have coached over
the past 18 years. Chris is constantly striving to improve his game. He will
be a four year player and starter for us and our leading scorer the last two
seasons. Chris has improved his skill to become a threat as a three point
shooter, slasher and post scorer. What has been impressive over the last months
is his ability to make those around him better with his court awareness and
passing skills. Chris has done an outstanding job the past three years and
will continue to do so due to his great work ethic and excellent attitude.
He is never satisfied and pushes to be the best not only on the court, but
also in the classroom where he is an excellent student and role model."
