12-30-99...Lew Wallace avenged an end of game shot on December 3rd that came by way of the hot hands of Brandon Cameron in the finals of the Gary Holiday Tournament hosted by Westside. Westside slowly narrowed the Wallace lead throughout the game, but a 10-of-12 shooting performance by Wallace from the freethrow line in the fourth quarter secured the win. The game was within reach for the Cougars, if only they had converted on a few of their 14 missed freethorws over the course of the game. (stats below)

2-27-99...In what turned out to be a controversial move that would draw the disgust of Horace Mann head coach Roosevelt Pulliam, Gary West's Ike Brown did not dress his top six players for the season-ending matchup with Mann. While Pulliam took it as an insult, Brown explained he had his eye on the tournament, and at least one player (Kenny Lowe) nursing an ankle sprain. So, the heirs to the 1999-2000 Westside team took the floor against Mann and won 56-49. Westside was led by two guards, Jamaal Travis at the point with 14 and Brandon Cameron at the off-guard position with 12 points. Cameron is only a freshman and is getting early attention as one of the best players in the Class of 2002. Cameron will figure to be a key contributor for Westside next year when they lose ten seniors, five who were starters and seven who will likely go on to play Division I basketball.
