Briana "Bree" Katja Horrocks was the first commitment to Sharon Versyp's 2014 recruiting class. The agile 6'4 center is part of a loaded high school team that has gone to the Georgia State Final game three years in a row, winning championships in 2011 and 2012. She has an inside-outisde game with range out to the perimeter, and possesses a good set of hands along with the ability to post up hard. Shot blocking and offensive range are strengths.
Horrocks committed to the Boilers on June 18, 2012, and chose Purdue over several offers, including Georgia, Southern Mississippi, Memphis and Maryland.
Purdue head coach Sharon Versyp..."In addition to her great size, Bree has fantastic touch and can go either direction with her
back to the basket. Her face-up game can stretch defenses out past the three-point line, and defensively she has the ability to
change, if not block, any shot, and clean up the glass." (November 13, 2013)
All-Star game scouting report by Bob Richards..."I spent the evening watching game film on Bree Horrocks. She is a REALLY nice
player. From some photos she looks like a string bean, but she can root players out of the post and plays good denial defense. She
has a wide base, gets her feet spread apart and puts up a big target in the post. From what I can tell she is an ok rebounder,
and I think it is an area of work for her on the next level. She rebounds on defense fine and alters quite a few shots, but
offensive rebounding needs work. When she does grab a defensive rebound, she is good for two or three dribbles, but is not the
type of player to bring it up against guards in the open court. She can rocket a sharp pass off those two or three dribbles,
and will be good at starting the break coming off the boards. I like her high post game on out to the perimeter, although the
moving screen is solidly in her game at the moment. But she has to be respected off the high post screen, as she can hit from
the perimeter and will not hesitate to put it up. Saw her go two-for-two from the perimeter. For the first she was trailing the
offense and floated up the court and camped on the left wing. The guard at the top of the key fed her as her defender was camped
out down in the low post. She squared up quickly and hit nothing but net. The second shot was off an opponent's defensive
rebound, and she was beginning to head down the court. The opponent lost the ball exiting the lane and it popped out to the wing.
Her teammate collected the loose ball and zipped it to Bree who was just to the left of the top of the key. A very quick
three-point motion and she again hit nothing but net. Her second shot had better form than the first, as the first looked a
little more pushed than the second. But she finished both with a nice flick of the wrist and a snap of the net. I was most
impressed with her confidence in not hesitating on the perimeter when open. I think my biggest concern was whether she could
handle post play in the Big Ten. I'm no longer concerned. And seeing where she is now starting her senior year, she could
develop into something really special." (November 11, 2013)
Scout Terry Blake..."Nice post game with her back to the basket, but even nicer when she steps out and makes the mid-range jumper
consistently, which she shows is a key to her game." (October 3, 2013)
Scout Jonathan Hemingway..."It is hard to believe that a post player as polished as Horrocks has not played a single high school
varsity game. She is, however, a veteran basketball player as she was named a 2010 EBA All-American. Her once young, wiry body has
filled out into a legit post player’s body that can take and give out contact. When she discovers how to always present a big
target to the ball on the block, she will be nearly impossible to guard because she has soft hands that allow her to catch most
passes. Moreover, Horrocks is not limited to the pivot position on the offensive end. Her touch is consistent to 16’ and she can
handle the ball reversal responsibilities of a face-up post in the secondary break. With so much promise for this young player,
the only thing that lacks for her is a killer instinct. Look for Horrocks to mature and put the mental and physical together
in years to come." (September 13, 2011)
