EXCERPTED:
...So head coach Tom Padjen deduced that Thomas needed a wake-up call --
and he was going to recruit his ace in the hole.
Chris Clopton had starred at the school and earned a scholarship to Purdue,
where he was a four-year letter-winner, playing with current Saints quarterback Drew Brees.

''We locked [Pierre] in our athletic office with Chris,'' Padjen said.

The two talked for 45 minutes.

At one point, Clopton asked Thomas a simple question:
''Do you want to be successful?''

Thomas was floored, looking at someone living his dream of playing football at a major program.
Clopton challenged him to re-evaluate his priorities and his friends.

''He showed me a different side to everything,'' Thomas said,
''and he helped me turn my life around.''

Clopton is humbled by Thomas' success and the role he played in it.
''You never realize the impact you may have on someone,'' Clopton said.
''I'm just real proud of him.''
