PURDUE FOOTBALL RECRUITING:
High school football report

Over the last few weeks, I attended the following games: (I've just been plain ol' lazy when it came to reporting anything)

    Warren Central over Ben Davis
    Perry Meridian over Bloomington South
    Ben Davis over Center Grove

I've lost my stats for these games, but do have some notes (and using my memory) on a few players of interest.

The WC/BD game was great! Great weather and great crowd...over 10k. WC won the game, but they had to earn it. Give BD credit, their defense slowed down the WC freight-train for 2.5 qtrs. What amazes me about BD is their entire program. A whopping 75 kids on the freshman team!

For Warren Central: (BTW; this is the fastest h.s. team I've seen since the Courtney Roby-North Central team of a few years ago)

    Mama Graham must be proud!

CHRISTIAN GRAHAM, WR/DB (6-2, 187 lbs., Sr.) Warren Central H.S. - nabbed a 20 TD pass from Tardy, he also interecepted a pass at the goal line and ran it back 93 yards to the 7. Impression? This guy is not just "bait" to nab his brother. Christian is top notch. He doesn't get to show off his receiving skills much because WC will run even when its 3rd and 12. I can see him as a WR or a solid, punishing safety. Don't know if he has the "hips" for corner. He's not bait! Why didn't he get more recruiting attention? I'm just happy he's a Boiler.

CHRIS GRAHAM, Backer! (6-0, 211 lbs., Sr.) Warren Central H.S. - Man, is he chiseled or what? If he wasn't at the bottom of the pile, he was on the top. He was always flying to the ball. Also, he's a solid 6 foot. I've seen him listed under that, but he plays "big". Really BIG. Really, really big. You get the idea. If we could nab him from Tenn and Michigan, I would feel just like I did when we landed Ray Edwards. He's the kind of "difference maker" you need. Out of 20 recruits, you always need at 5 difference makers. I believe he dinged up a little a bit right now.

DESMOND TARDY, QB (6-1, 177 lbs., Sr.) Warren Central H.S. - Des is a vastly underrated athlete. He runs their WING-T to a T. If he's not a 4 star athlete, then I'm an IU fan!! He runs so effortlessly. Smooth. Physically, he has that lanky, "Brian Alford" look. He'll be an exceptional WR for us. Again, I'm glad he verballed to us.

MARK BONDS, RB (5-10, 220 lbs., Sr.) Warren Central H.S. - Man! This kid should have 10 offers by now. I believe grades are scaring people off.

For Center Grove: (side note: CG installed that rubber, fake grass stuff before the season. The first h.s. in Indiana. It looks cool. I had a chance to walk on it and it has nice cushion to it.) This was a big win for BD. They simply outmuscled CG. Plus, CG fumbled the first 3 possessions. Can't do that and win.

JIMMY LADD, FB/LB (6-2, 215 lbs., Sr.) Center Grove H.S. - As you know, JL got his bell majorly rung at Lawrence North. As in, "concussion rung". He played sparingly. I'm pretty sure he fumbled on his first carry. He wasn't at 100%. Physically, he looks like a younger Joe Odom or a younger Jon Goldsberry. That's a good thing! I'll have more opportunities to see JL when he'll be more healthy.

J.B.PAXSON, TE/DE (6-3, 250 lbs., Jr.) Center Grove H.S. - There has been some pub lately for this kid. He'll be a highly recruited guy next year. Good news, I hear his parents are Purdue people! You see, there ARE Purdue people in Greenwood, IN. As if that wasn't enough, its good to have Jimmy Ladd standing there with a Purdue pen on signing day. What's not to like? Physically, he reminds me of another CG star named Jeremy Van Alstyne. (he's a Wolverine now) Probably a better DE than TE. Could grow into a DT. A Doug Van Dyke/Craig Terrill blue-collar type. He's got thick arms and quick feet. Him and the Edmundson-kid (IU verbal) anchor a very good front line.

That's it for now. I'm hoping to catch Warren and Center Grove at least once more. This Friday, I'll catch the Franklin Central/Columbus North game. FC has a top-notch junior, plus it should be good game.
