Big Ten Recruiting
Big Ten programs recently received a trio of commitments from 5'8 guards.
Penn State received a big vote of confidence when Chicago Hope's Zhaque Gray committed to the Nittany Lions on Sunday. Gray, a 5'8 scoring guard who was drawing interest from Rutgers, Temple, Illinois and DePaul, chose Penn State over Illinois, a school she visited three weeks ago. Gray battled injury last season but still averaged 20 points per game. Gray chose Penn State due to her long relationship with new head coach Coquese Washington, and a desire to play in the Big Ten.
Canton McKinley 5'8 senior combo guard Porsche Poole has committed to Michigan State. As a junior, Poole averaged 18 points, four assists and four rebounds. She chose the Spartans over Kentucky, Texas Christian and Kent State.
And Ohio State added a backcourt mate to recent commitment Sam Prahalis, in gaining the legacy commitment of 5'8 off-guard Amber Stokes. Amber's father played collegiate ball for Ohio State in the mid-80s. Stokes averaged 17.5 points as a junior and chose Ohio State over offers from Louisville and Illinois. She is rated No. 63 by Hoopgurlz.
In other general Big Ten recruiting news ... 6'0 junior Nya Jordan of Detroit Community High School is being recruited by Ohio State, Michigan and Kansas State ... 5'11 senior guard Maggie Boyer of Lebanon HS (IN) is looking at Michigan State, Iowa and Virginia, but may wait until the late signing period before making a commitment.
