With her final two choices down to Penn State and Purdue, Wheaton North rising senior Jessica Ullrich went with where she felt the most comfortable. And Purdue will gain her services for the 2007 season.
Ullrich credits her club owner Denise Lazeroni-Kavanaugh for getting her name in front of the Purdue staff. Originally not interested in bringing on another walkon in the 2007 class, Lazeroni-Kavanaugh's friendship with head coach Dave Shondell proved valuable. Ullrich had equivalent walkon offers from Penn State and Northwestern. She took unofficial visits to all three schools before making her decision.
Ullrich will be the third athlete in the Ullrich family to be playing collegiately. Her brother Zach is playing at Wheaton College, and brother Brock is at Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne fresh off a trip to the NCAA Final Four.
An outside hitter in high school, the 5-foot-8 Ullrich will transition to defensive specialist/libero. She joins fellow club setter Jaclyn Hart, middle Kristen Arthurs and outside hitter Mandy Nichols as the fourth commitment for the Class of 2007.
