Dockery to Minnesota
Kristen Dockery announced Tuesday evening she would be playing for the University of Minnesota. Coach Versyp had started recruiting Dockery when she arrived at Purdue when it became apparent Amber Harris was not going to be following through with her signed commitment to Purdue.
In a conversation with Gary Dockery last night, the Dockerys were impressed by Versyp's attention, but went with the school that had been recruiting Kristen much longer.
"She spoke with Coach Versyp last night and informed her of her decision and told her it was a tough one, said Gary Dockery to Old Gold Free Press. "Coach V. was very positive, congratulated her and wished her good luck."
"Coach V. is first class. Kristen and we regard her very highly. Purdue is in good hands."
The Purdue staff recruited Dockery as a four.
Big Ten Recruiting
Minnesota has picked up two commitments in as many days. Kristen Dockery of South Bend St. Joe's has given Minnesota a verbal commitment. The 6'5 2007 post player averaged 11.6 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.7 blocks and shot 61.3 percent from the field as a junior.
Minnesota also received their first commitment for the class of 2008. Kiara Buford, a 5'11 forward, averaged 20.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game last season for St. Paul Central (MN). She has a total of 904 career points. St. Paul Central finished third in the 2006 Minnesota State Girls' Basketball Tournament, and Buford was named to the Class 4A All-Tournament team.
