PURDUE WOMENS BASKETBALL RECRUITING:
Women's Recruiting Update: Purdue looks big in 2007

    Purdue involved with 6'4 Holloway

Purdue is said to be in the mix for 6'4 junior forward Kayla Holloway of Dyersburg, TN, along with most of the SEC.

Holloway led Dyersburg with 13 points and six rebounds in a 54-46 loss in the Tennessee state finals to then nationally ranked Mt. Juliet when she was a sophomore. She missed most of her junior season with a knee injury.

    Purdue in Dockery's final two

Either Purdue or Iowa will gain the future services of 6'4 power forward Kristen Dockery of South Bend St. Joseph's.

With the commitment from 6'5 Ta'Shia Phillips in 2007, Versyp looks to be adding 6'4 or bigger players at the 3, 4 and 5 positions with the newest interest in Holloway and Dockery.

    This and that

Brittany Rayburn's summer travel team has qualified for the AAU National Tournament to be held from July 11-18 in Orlando Florida. Although the team finished third in the state AAU tournament, they qualified for Nationals by going undefeated at the AAU Super Regional in Noblesville.

Amber Harris and Dee Dee Jernigan have found new programs after being released from their Purdue commitments. Harris will be attending Xavier, while Jernigan chose Rutgers.

Stephanie Helgeson, who decided to transfer from Purdue this spring, has enrolled at the University of Southern Mississippi. She cited playing time and lack of familiar faces as being reasons she transferred.

A couple of Michigan players who had received some looks from the Purdue staff will be playing together in Texas. Jareica Hughes and Timika Williams, teammates on the 2005 Southfield-Lathrup state championship team, have signed with the University of Texas-El Paso.

    Big Ten recruiting

New Indiana University women's basketball coach Felisha Legette-Jack has landed her first recruit. Nicole Hardin, a 5'7 guard from Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield, IL, will join the IU program for the 2006-07 season. Hardin, from Calumet City in Illinois, averaged 13 points and five rebounds as a sophomore. We will also be removing Angel Gray from the IU 2006 commitment list, as she has been granted her release and will instead enroll at Florida State. Gray is the sister of former IU assistant Nadine Morgan, who is now on the Purdue staff.

Northwestern has received two transfers, one they can use in 2006-07 and one the year after. Northwestern has received a commitment from Paris Junior College forward Keisha Jones, and 6'2 forward Ellen Jaeschke who is transferring from Air Force. Jones, a 6'1 forward originally from Louisiana, is a two-time all-region selection for the Paris, TX school, and finished her junior college career averaging 16.3 points and 7.8 rebounds while shooting 51.5 percent from the field. Ellen Jaeschke, the cousin of New Trier's Amy Jaeschke who happens to be a Purdue target, averaged 6.6 points and 4.5 rebounds for Air Force last season as a sophomore. She decided to transfer due to a mandatory four-year military service requirement following her Air Force Academy graduation and the possibility of heading to Iraq. Academy students are allowed to transfer before their third year without penalty. Jaeschke also considered the University of Chicago.

Michigan State has reportedly received a commitment from instate forward Cetera Washington. Washington, a 6'0 small forward from Kalamazoo Loy Norrix (MI), averaged 26.2 points, 11.4 rebounds and 5.0 blocks as a junior. She holds school records in points scored over three years (1,320) and single-game scoring (48).

The number of known basketball commitments for the class of 2007 stands at 56, and three commitments have been made public for the class of 2008.
