2006: Amber Harris
North Central is off to a 3-0 start. The opener was a 62-41 win over Mooresville, where North Central ran off 17 points at the beginning of the game before Mooresville scored. Amber Harris had 10 points and five rebounds, shooting 2-of-6 from the field and 6-of-14 from the line.
Game two was a home matchup with Muncie Central. North Central rolled to a 68-20 win, holding Muncie Central's best scorer to just five points.
Harris scored a season-high 28 points in a 54-37 win over Perry Meridian. Harris had 18 of her 28 in the second half of play.
Up next is Wednesday's matchup against No. 18 Pike, North Central's first real test of their Class 4A No. 1 ranking against a sharp offensive team.
2006: Dee Dee Jernigan
East Chicago is 2-1, playing all three of their first games on the road. Dee Dee Jernigan scored 19 points is a 56-36 win over Hammond. EC held Hammond to just 13-of-48 shooting from the floor.
Jernigan led all scorers in a 49-43 win over South Bend Clay. She finished with 17 points.
Digging themselves into a big hole in the first half, EC made a 15-4 run at Chicago John Hope in the third quarter but was not able to make up for their 16 point halftime deficit. East Chicago dropped their first game of the season, 48-44. Dee Dee had 13 points. Hope is ranked No. 1 in Illinois Class A, and features Jernigan's AAU teammate Latear Eason, who led Hope with 20 points.
