IHSAA Girls Poll shows competitive year for Purdue recruits
If the first Associated Press poll is any indication, getting tickets early for the 2006 IHSAA state championships should be a priority for fans of future Boilermakers.
In Class 4A, North Central and Amber Harris begin the season at No. 1 and East Chicago and Dee Dee Jernigan are at No. 6. In Class 3A, No. 2 Brebeuf was edged out by No. 1 South Bend St. Joseph's, but is followed closely by Evansville Memorial and FahKara Malone at No. 3.
Another school to keep an eye on is Attica, ranked No. 6 in Class A. A schedule that includes ten games against 2A teams and three 3A games should provide solid tests for Brittany Rayburn and company. A January 5th game against West Lafayette should be a hot local ticket.
Blue Star Class of 2006 rankings
Blue Star has released their top 100 rankings for the Class of 2006, and Amber Harris remains the nation's top prospect in 2006. Fellow Purdue signee Dee Dee Jernigan is ranked at No. 19. The only other Indiana player listed is Fort Wayne Lutheran's Chanell Ridley at No. 40. Ridley has signed to play at Miami of Ohio.
Blue Star also ranks Purdue's three member class of 2006 of Harris, Jernigan and Malone, as the nation's third best recruiting class. Other Big Ten programs with classes ranked in the top 30 are Minnesota (No. 11), Ohio State (No. 22), and Michigan (No. 24).
