Another Michigan prospectPurdue, along with Kansas State and Michigan, are showing interest in 6'2 junior Keshia Hines of Auburn Hills Avondale High (MI). Hines averaged 12 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots as a sophomore as Avondale finished 17-5 and won the Oakland Activities Association Division II title. The previous year as a Division III program, Avondale won the Division III title. This season, again moving up in class, Avondale will take a shot at the Division I title.
Big Ten Commitments
Penn State has a 2006 commitment from 5'9 Meggan Quinn of Red Lion HS (PA). The senior chose Penn State over Hartford, Maryland, Massachusetts and Vanderbilt. Quinn averaged 18.5 points as a junior, and 16.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.9 steals as a sophomore. She plans to study criminal justice.
Indiana has two commitments from the class of 2006. Shanice Billington, a 5'5 point guard from Bulkeley-Hartford (CT) is an honors student who was named all-state first team by the Hartford Courant. Billington averaged 15.8 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.3 steals.
Indiana also gained a commitment from Jamie Braun, a 5'7 guard from Marshfield HS (WI). She was getting interest from Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Marquette, Cleveland State and New Mexico. Braun transferred to Marshfield her junior year and averaged 12.1 points and 3.9 rebounds while shooting 56-percent from the floor and 71-percent from the line. As a sophomore, she averaged 16.1 points a game and added 47 assists and 65 steals.
Michigan State has a commitment from 2006 Michigan product Alyssa DeHaan, a 6'8 center who averaged 26 points, 12.9 rebounds and 9.8 blocks last season to help Grandville High reach a Class A quarterfinal. She had reduced her list to one Division I school (Michigan State), one Division II school (Grand Valley State) and one Division III school (Cornerstone College) before choosing Michigan State.
