PURDUE WOMENS BASKETBALL RECRUITING:
Players and Coaches Flock to Fishers

Old Gold Free Press continues our annual coverage of the Blue Star Elite Camp this past week, where the camp was held for the second consecutive year at The Fieldhouse in Fishers, Ind. We hope The Fieldhouse becomes the permanent home for the camp, as Mike Flynn has found a wonderful place that allows ample viewing of up to six courts of basketball. Back in the 90s when Blue Star was being held in Terre Haute, Flynn has always welcomed our attendance and we appreciate the hospitality.

Blue Star welcomed 50 players from classes ranging from 2006 to 2010 to a camp that focuses on drillwork and skills training. During the two day camp, only four hours are dedicated to actual game play. Why we like this camp is it gives you an instant look into the coachability of the players in attendance, and their ability to perform fundamental skills.

Adding to the scouting opportunities that Blue Star created, the US Junior National Premier Midwest Invitational is also being held this week in the same facility with 48 teams from nine states participating. The Midwest Invitational is a primer for the USJN National Championships held later in July in Washington DC, and is held at the beginning of the July NCAA evaluation period for college coaches.

Over the next week we will be posting some game reports and player evaluations from both events, along with a series of photos taken during the week. While we were not able to do evaluations for every Blue Star camper, or see every USJN team play, hopefully fans of the teams and players we did see will be able to share in what occurred in Fishers this week.
