PURDUE WOMENS BASKETBALL RECRUITING:
Recruiting Update: Howell leads team in loss

Howell leads North team in defeat

Jodi Howell was the only player in double-figures for the North squad in the North/South Indiana All-Star Classic Sunday. Howell scored 11 points in a 91-72 loss to the South team. The South team was led by Hamilton Southeastern's Kahla Roudebush with 13 points.

In other Jodi Howell news, the 2005 Miss Basketball is currently No. 1 in her class with a perfect 4.0 gpa. She plans to study business at Purdue. The Muncie Star-Press has a nice article on her today as she was named the girls' basketball Athlete of the Year by the newspaper.

Harris and Phillips on All-American team

Purdue landed two players on the Parade All-American teams announced recently. Amber Harris was one of three juniors named to the 10-member first team, while Ta'Shia Phillips was the nation's highest rated sophomore, landing herself on the third team.

    More elite camps invites

Two mid-July all-american camps attracting players this summer will be the adidas "Top Ten" All American Camp and the AGS All American Camp. Both will be held in Georgia this year. Here are a few of the Illinois high school players with invitations in hand so far. We will try to periodically post camp invites for midwestern players and/or Purdue prospects as we get news of them.

Sarah Boothe (Warren HS) -- adidas
Lauren Benson (Benet HS) -- AGS
Terriel Cannon (Proviso West HS) -- adidas
Teah Gant (Oswego HS) -- adidas
Alison Jackson (Fenwick HS) -- adidas
Amy Jaeschke (New Trier HS) -- adidas
Lykendra Johnson (Trinity HS) -- adidas
Brittany McCoy (Loyola HS) -- adidas
Molly McGue (Benet HS) -- AGS
Jocelyn Mellen (Sterling HS) -- adidas
Keilani Moeaki (Wheaton South HS) -- adidas
Brittani Nichols (Thornwood HS) -- AGS
Tatiana Ortiz (Von Steuben HS) -- adidas
Devereaux Peters (Fenwick HS) -- adidas
Meshia Reed (Hillcrest HS) -- AGS
Lana Rukavina (Wheeling HS) -- adidas
Danae Russell (Thornwood HS) -- AGS
Ashley Thomas (Loyola HS) -- adidas
Ashanti Walker (Thornwood HS) -- AGS
Eileen Weissmann (Loyola HS) -- adidas

The annual Old Gold Free Press coverage of the Nike All-American Camp has been cancelled this year due to Nike moving to a team concept instead of the more individual all-american type camp. However, we will continue to scout the Blue Star Midwest Camp, and will likely be either choosing the AGS or Top Ten camp this summer, or wait until the end of July for a team tournament like the Adidas Girls Basketball Summer Jamboree in Naperville (IL). More details coming early this summer.

    Northwestern adds a post

Julie Bielawski, a 6'1 post player from Rogers High in Rogers, Arkansas has signed with Northwestern. As a senior, Bielawski averaged 10.7 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. She had season highs of 25 points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots back on January 4th. Bielawski got her foot in Northwestern's gym door when her parents sent a highlight tape of her to a list of colleges, including Northwestern. The family is originally from the Chicago area.
