In a battle of the Lady Tigers, Alexandria shot down Yorktown in a convincing manner. When Yorktown left the gym they left with a deeper understanding of what Jodi Howell brings to the floor.
Coming out of the gates with both barrels blazing, Howell lit up the nets hitting six three-pointers in the first quarter. She pushed the Alex squad to a 20-8 lead that they would never relenquish. Yorktown battled back and remained within striking distance using a triangle-and-two defense, with the two on Howell. Alex led at the half, 31-15. Yorktown picked up the intensity in the second half, pulling to within nine in the 3rd quarter before a late surge by Alex.
Howell finished the night with 43 points (6-of-7 3FG, 7-of-11 2FG, 11-of-12 FT), 11 rebounds, five assists, three steals and two blocked shots. Fellow senior, Annie Kirkwood added six assists and six rebounds.
Alexandria moves to 7-10 on the season and travels to Mississinewa tomorrow night. Yorktown drops to 11-9 on the season and travels to Muncie Burris Tuesday, Feb. 1st.
