Alexandria’s Jodi Howell, entered the game against conference rival, Madison Grant needing only 17 points to eclipse the 18 year old Madison County scoring record held by Anderson’s Dana Wilkerson. She didn’t know it going in but following the game she was glad it was over. Howell re-set the Alexandria single game scoring record with 52 points in the game on 23/34 shooting. It was just a month ago when she surpassed her previous record of 41 (she set as a freshmen) when she scored 46 against Lapel on December 1st.
With 2:46 left in the first quarter, Jodi Howell posted up just to the left of the lane, turned and drove to the hoop. That basket put her past the career points record previously held by Wilkerson. Howell scored 26 points in the opening stanza. Howell now has a career total of 1,728 points.
"Dad always told me about Dana Wilkerson and how good a player she was", Jodi said. "He always said she was ahead of her time and that she should have been Miss Basketball." Wilkerson ironically, ended her high school career in her final game for Anderson at the hands of Jon Howell’s Alexandria squad.
Alexandria (5-7) hosts unbeaten conference foe, Elwood on Saturday.
