Hall of Fame Classic to feature Purdue recruit and target
The annual Hall of Fame Classic, held each year at the New Castle Fieldhouse, has brought in two teams led by two players the Purdue staff holds great interest in.
On December 29th, beginning at 10:00am, Bloomington North will play Hamilton Southeastern in the first game. Scheduled for a noon tipoff will be East Chicago Central, featuring junior scorer Dee Dee Jerigan, and Evansville Memorial, featuring junior point guard Fahkara Malone. With Malone already committed to Purdue and Jernigan offered a scholarship, the game will give fans a chance to see the two go head-to-head.
Jerigan led East Chicago Central in scoring and rebounding last season with 15.6 points and 10.6 rebounds. She also added 4.4 assists. Malone led Memorial with 18 points, scoring 28 in their semi-state loss last spring to eventual state champion Brebeuf.
The losers in the two early games will meet in the Classic consolation game at 6:00pm, followed by the winners tipping off at 8:00pm.
The Classic organizers again picked four of Indiana's power teams for the 2004 Classic. According to the most recent state polls released by the ICGSA, Bloomington North is ranked at No. 1 in Class 4A, followed immediately at No. 2 by Hamilton Southeastern. East Chicago Central is ranked No. 8 in Class 4A, and Evansville Memorial ranks No. 2 in the Class 3A poll.
