Purdue received a commitment on Wednesday from their top point guard priority in the class of 2006, Evansville Memorial's Fahkara Malone. Malone, a 5'4 speedster who averaged 18 points per game as a sophomore, committed to Purdue following a weekend visit.
Memorial head coach Bruce Dockery confirmed on Wednesday evening what started as internet board chatter earlier in the day.
You can't call Fahkara an unknown commodity in Indiana, especially after her strong sophomore season and standout performance in last season's Class 3A semi-state. Malone scored 28 points against eventual state champion Brebeuf in the Southport semi-state in 2004. She averaged 18 points, 4.6 steals and 1.7 assists as a junior, leading Memorial to a 21-4 record.
Memorial currently ranks No. 2 in Class 3A in the latest ICGSA poll.
She joins Amber Harris as Kristy Curry's second commitment for the class of 2006. Purdue has four scholarships available for the class of 2006.
