Nike Camper on Purdue's watch listA player we scouted this summer at the Nike All-American Camp in St. Louis, 6'1 forward Joy Cheek of South Mecklenburg (NC), is said to have received a scholarship offer form Purdue by the Charlotte Observer. Purdue is among a list that includes Auburn, Charlotte, Duke, Notre Dame, and North Carolina.
Cheek personally does not feel a need to stay close to home, but her parents would like for her to stay in North Carolina. Her academic aspirations point to either engineering, pediatrics or law as a major. She averaged 14 points, 7 rebounds, 1.2 blocks, and 2.3 assists as a sophomore.
Sister of Keady kid signs with Temple
Shenita Landry, sister of Purdue forward Carl Landry, has signed with Temple University. Shenita averaged 12 points, 6.7 rebounds and three assists, helping her team to the WIAA Division I state tournament in 2004. She chose Temple over Rutgers, with Marquette and Wisconsin-Green Bay also showing interest.
Illini sign their sixth recruit
Illinois received the last commitment from class of 2005 players today upon receiving the signed letter-of-intent from 6'2 senior forward Victoria (Torie) Arndt. Arndt is a physical, left-handed forward out of West Branch high school in Ohio. Rated as the 91st-best player in the class of 2005, she also carries a 3.8 gpa.
During her junior season, she averaged 14.5 points, 8.1 rebounds and shot .552 from the field and .712 from the line. West Branch won the 2004 Ohio Division II State Championship behind Torie's 18 points.
She chose Illinois over Wake Forest, Kentucky and Providence.
