"Big Mo" could be Purdue boundIn light of Melvin Buckley's transfer from Purdue, freeing up another scholarship to offer the Class of 2004, Purdue is showing interest in 6'9 center Maurice "Big Mo" Shaw of Bridgton Academy.
Bridgton is not only the program that featured David Teague for a prep year two years ago, but also was the prep school of choice for Purdue's current head recruiter Cuonzo Martin. Purdue's latest coaching addition and heir apparent, Matt Painter, helped bring Bridgton's Stetson Hairston to Southern Illinois in 2001.
Shaw, originally from Tacoma, Washington, bounced around California (Fresno High) and Arizona (Gilbert High) before landing in Maine at Bridgton. After being recruited by Boston College, Iowa, Texas Tech and Indiana as a senior in 2003, he chose to go to prep school to help him become academically eligible.
He was a 2002 Nike All-American Camp attendee, where he was measured 6'9 (height), 8'6 (reach) and 7'0 (wingspan). Listed this past season at 225 pounds, Shaw is an athletic big man who enjoys playing in the post. He has the potential to be a double-double kind of performer as he gains experience in college. And surely to make the Purdue coaching staff happy, he has good vision for a big man. He averaged close to three assists per game as a junior and senior.
Purdue hosts Harangody for unofficial visit
Class of 2006 big forward Luke Harangody from Andrean High (IN) has made an unofficial visit to Purdue. Harangody is a 6'8, 240-pound forward from Andrean, the former high school team of Purdue's Carson Cunningham. Also on staff at Andrean as an assistant coach is Bob Buscher, father of Purdue's Brett Buscher.
Harangody played in eight games this past season before going down to stress fractures in two vertebrae. He listed double-doubles in each game, averaging 21 points and 14.6 rebounds.
Purdue offers James
On Friday, Purdue extended a scholarship offer to Richmond point guard Dominic James. The 5'11 junior averaged 22 points per game and finished 17th in the state in scoring. He also averaged 6.3 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 2.4 steals. Purdue's offer joins offers from Iowa, Ohio State, Ball State and Southern Illinois.
