PURDUE WOMENS BASKETBALL RECRUITING:

Kirsten Thompson and Monroe High finished fifth in the Washington Class 4A state tournament by defeating Gig Harbor 53-48. Thompson had nine points and 11 rebounds in the final game.

Monroe was immediately sent to the consolation bracket of the tournament by dropping their first game to Prairie (26-1) who ended up finishing third in the tournament.

Over the four tournament games, Thompson averaged 12.8 points and 10.3 rebounds. For the season, Thompson averaged 14 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots.

Thompson has accepted an invitation to the 2004 USA Basketball Youth Development Festival at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs (CO). She will be one of 48 players invited to the festival, which takes place in July. She will begin the month of July with a visit to the adidas Top Ten Camp.

In the meantime, Thompson is no longer listing Purdue, at least not among her top five favorites. Arizona State, Washington, Notre Dame, USC and UCLA make up that list, as she begins to weigh athletics and academics. She's currently leaning toward a career in film, behind the camera.
