PURDUE WOMENS BASKETBALL RECRUITING:
Recruiting Update: Curry scouts 6'6 center

    Curry trips to Washington

Coach Kristy Curry mentioned heading to Washington to check out a center prospect on her weekly show, and indications point to her target being 6'6 Kirsten Thompson of Monroe High.

Thompson, a 6'6 junior center, is drawing attention from most top Division I programs. Purdue, UCONN, Washington, Stanford and Notre Dame are among the programs keeping an eye on her progress. Last weekend against Marysville, Thompson scored 21 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to advance Monroe's record to 14-1.

In the classroom, Thompson carries a 3.65 grade point average.

Another Lawless to keep an eye on

Among the crowd for Purdue's 58-49 win over Illinois in Champaign a couple weeks ago, were the members of the Wheeling (Ill.) girls basketball team. Wheeling features 6-foot-1 freshman center Taylor Lawless, cousin of Purdue's Erin Lawless.

The freshman has made a huge impact on a team that only won six games last season. With their 37-36 win over Meadows on Saturday, the team has already surpassed that mark by four games. Taylor Lawless had 13 of the team's 37 points, and also grabbed nine rebounds. She has turned into the player who takes over the scoring toward the end of games. She scored nine of her points in the fourth quarter.

Last Tuesday under constant double and triple teams, Lawless led all scorers with 19 points and 13 rebounds.

    Ramblings

Oak Ridge head coach Barbara Leon on the play of junior center Morgan Clyburn ..."She's still hungry. She's a kid who's hard on herself, and she's a perfectionist. She continues to work hard at her game. She's a total team player. Morgan is harder on herself than anybody."
