PURDUE WOMENS BASKETBALL RECRUITING:
Recruiting Update: Sophomore Lechlitner stays close to home

    Cassie Kerns update

Kelly Curry was the member of the staff who scouted the game at Valparaiso against Merrillville. He wasn't the only Division I coach in attendance, as three additional Big Ten programs sent scouts. Michigan, Iowa and Indiana all showed up for the 44-39 Valparaiso win. Kerns had 17 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots.

Kerns most recently visited Purdue for the Penn State game, and has also made unofficial visits to Notre Dame, Michigan and Indiana. The 6'3 junior is getting the most attention in return from Michigan and Indiana. The recruiting in return from Purdue might be considered lighter in comparison at this time, yet indications are that the family would love to see that change. Cassie's father is a Purdue graduate, and Cassie's older brother Chris will be a student at Purdue in the fall.

    Lechlitner to Notre Dame

South Bend sophomore point guard Melissa Lechlitner has chosen to stay very close to home and join the Notre Dame program in 2006. Notre Dame offered a scholarship on January 1st, and the sophomore decided she did not need to drag the decision out even though she cannot officially sign with a program until November of 2005. Lechlitner considered Purdue her number two choice.
