Purdue has received a commitment from Louisville St. Xavier linebacker Dan Bick. The 6'2, 205-pound senior recorded 130 tackles and blocked 10 kicks as a junior.
St. Xavier (12-2) advanced to the Class 4A state finals by beating Warren Central (11-3) 13-7 on Friday. Bick scored St. Xavier's only touchdown on a 7-yard run with six minutes left in the game. His run capped a 76 yard, 12 play series. He also blocked a punt and a field goal attempt, plus had a fumble recovery in the game. The St. Xavier defense held Warren Central to a total of 36 yards rushing for the game.
The win sets up a rematch with 4A power Trinity for the state championship, a team that beat St. Xavier 17-6 in their fifth game of this season. That loss, which exposed St. Xavier as more one-dimensional on offense than they liked, forced the staff to bring some defense into the offense, primarily Bick and defensive back Justin Deeley. Bick playing both ways has led to five offensive touchdowns on the season, one in each of St. Xaxier's last two playoff games. In a 34-7 victory over Louisville Male last week, Bick scored on a 10-yard run on offense with nine minutes remaining.
Before this week's game against Warren Central, Bick led his team with 87 tackles. This, while missing two games this season to recover from a deep thigh bruise and one due to the funeral of his grandfather.
Bick chose Purdue over Louisville, Western Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky, Northwestern and Indiana.
