During the Spiece Run 'N Slam tournament, Robert Vaden announced he has opened up his recruitment, and will look to take some visits to schools such as Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, UNC, and Florida. The problem he has is he wants to look at other programs and some will not touch him or offer visits due to his connection, orally, to Purdue. While some might say this is purely out of respect for Keady and the unwritten rules of verbal commitments, but frankly, it is a result of the fact that other schools cannot keep all their behind-the-scenes dealings secret anymore. The coverage is too great, and the sources are too deep.
While the door is still open for Purdue, and his meeting with Keady went "well", his desires may not be in line with those of Purdue. The fact is that I believe Purdue would take him as a prop48, while some of the other programs recruiting him will not. His core is ok, but he needs help with his SAT. And the fact that his teammates Courtney Lee was headed out today to take the SAT and Robert wasn't, leaves the question why Vaden also did not go.
So, as of his public announcement to decommit, I am taking him and Gadis off the list of verballed recruits on this site.
Robert scored 35 points in the Friday win over Compton. His shooting touch has dramatically improved, something I did not think were possible, and he showed he can play either guard position. He's scorer, so the shooting guard slot should be his target. Courtney Lee scored 25, Grissom had 9 and Gadis added 3. They beat an obviously jetlagged Compton team 86-60. Vaden was guarded by a 6'8 player all night, and he consistently shot over him.
