Indiana No. 1 Pike and Indiana No. 2 North Central will be part of a four-team field on January 3rd, as the Indiana Black Expo hosts the Circle City Classic Showcase. The game will be held at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Tickets for the doubleheader are $10.
In the 6:30pm opener, North Central will face three-time Missouri state champion St. Louis Vashon. The Boilers are scouting North Central guard A.J. Ratliff, and Vashon point guard Dwayne Polk. The game will likely not showcase the talents of Polk, as he is being slowly brought back onto the floor after suffering a broken kneecap in September. He is not expected to be at full strength until February, but has played very limited minutes in games this season.
In game two, Pike will face Kentucky defending state champion Lexington Catholic. The two teams started the season ranked in the top 10 nationally by USA Today. Pike holds the eighth spot, while Lexington Catholic comes in at No. 10. Catholic will test Pike's strengths, as Catholic runs a variety of defenses including full-court pressure, and tries to wear out opponents using a deep bench and liberal substitutions. As of this past Saturday, Lexington Catholic is currently on a 24-game winning streak.
