Curry on recruitingOn the topic of recruiting, Coach Curry had the following to say in the Friday edition of the Fort Wayne News Sentinel...
"To be good, you have to go national. We recruit Indiana and the Midwest. Hopefully you get it done there, but if not, you go national."
Gearlds can't rescue Beech Grove
Despite 12 points in the final quarter of player, Katie G could not lead 3A No. 2 Beech Grove (7-1) to victory over 4A No. 6 Pike in the quarterfinals of the Marion County Tourney. Pike got 18 points from senior Miranda Green in the 50-48 win.
Gearlds finished with 28 points on 8-28 shooting from the floor. She also hit 10-of-11 freethrow attempts and grabbed nine rebounds.
Beech Grove advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating Lutheran, 63-40. Gearlds led all scorers with 24 points. We have a policy of not talking up players until the end of their freshman years. However, we will say keep and eye on Lutheran freshman Laura Bugher. Bugher is a 6'0 scorer who is averaging 20.7 points per game. She drew the defensive assignment of Katie Gearlds during the game.
Scoreboard
Sophomore Jodi Howell had 20 points to help Alexandria (8-0) remain undefeated, in a 67-45 win over Eastern.
In head-to-head action, junior Caprice Smith and Trinity (9-2) couldn't seem to muster enough ball control to upset No. 1 Fenwick (7-0) and senior Purdue signee Erin Lawless. Smith led all scorers with 20 points, while Lawless led Fenwick with 18 points and nine rebounds. Coaches from Illinois, Maryland and Georgia were in attendance to scout Smith.
