PURDUE WOMENS BASKETBALL RECRUITING:

    Washington to Wake Forest

The last post prospect on Purdue's list of potential signees for the early period has chosen to go elsewhere. Melissa Washington, a 6'5 center from Largo High, MD, signed a national letter-of-intent to attend Wake Forest. Washington followed in her father's ACC fottsteps. Her father, Donald Washington, played for North Carolina in 1973.

    Katie G explodes

Katie Gearlds was the leading scorer in Beech Grove's game against Green wood on Saturday. As a matter of fact, take the total points of anyone else on the floor for either team that night, double it, and Katie was still the game's high scorer. Behind her 39 points, Beech Grove defeated Greenwood 75-57. Katie had a double-double, adding 11 rebounds.

    Jodi Howell...finally

It has been our site policy to avoid talking about players until their sophomore years in high school. It was especially hard last year with the state's top player in the freshman class showing interest in the Boilermakers and leading all other freshmen in scoring in the state. That player, who has been spotted in Mackey Arena on more that one occassion, is Jodi Howell of Alexandria.

In her season opener on Saturday, Howell had a game high 33 points and 9 rebounds. Alexandria has opened the seaosn at the No. 2 spot in Class 3A. Expect to hear more about Howell and Alexandria for the next few years on this site.
