Joe Marshall's chance to get in the NBA backdoor was turned away as the Mobile Revelers cut their roster to the required ten players.Marshall was invited to tryout for the Mobile Revelers of the National Basketball Developmental League, the NBA's minor league. A total of 23 players went through the Revelers training camp, ten of which were announced to the final roster on Thursday. Marshall did not make the final cut.
Four players are listed at guard on the final roster, including former Northwestern guard Geno Carlisle. Other guards chosen were 6-foot-3 Ernest Brown, 5-foot-10 Ted Dupay, and 6-foot-8 Rod Grizzard. Marshall's main competition for a roster spot came from the much more versatile Grizzard.
Around the NBDL, former Michigan State, turned NBA early entry, guard Marcus Taylor was cut from the Columbus Riverdragons. The Big Ten's leader in scoring average for the 2002-03 season left Michigan State believing to be an NBA lottery pick. Now it appears Taylor's NBA dream will have to go through Europe.
Former Big Ten players making rosters across the NBDL include Andre Woolridge (Iowa), Geno Carlisle (Northwestern), Danny Earl (Penn State), and Sean Daugherty (Wisconsin). Former Ball State's center Lonnie Jones also won a roster spot with the Columbus Riverdragons franchise.
