The first official practice this year for the Purdue men and women will be on October 16th at 11:00pm. Festivities for Mackey Magic will begin at 11:00pm, with the players scheduled to take the floor just after midnight. In past exhibitions, which are free to the public, the evening starts off with a crowd-warmer like frisbee-catching dogs or acrobats, followed by player and coach introductions, a scrimmage for both the men and women (sometimes co-ed), followed by three-point and slam dunk contests. A highlight of this year's show will be the slam dunk competition, featuring a trio of high flyers in Rodney Smith, Gary McQuay (defending champion) and Cameron Stephens.
The list of recruits on hand for Mackey Magic is scheduled to include East Chicago's Ricky Wright (who will be making an official visit October 16-17), Greenfield-Central's John Hamilton, Marion's Zach Randolph, and recently verballed junior Brett Buscher.
