Got some email tonight from Mike Miller of West Coast Hoops, who told me that Jay Price was out west checking into Nick Vander Laan. Nick is playing for the LA Rockfish this summer, but will be going back to school in the fall in Kent, Connecticut. Laan is a 6'10 center with a desire to play power forward in college.
Miller writes "...[Purdue] wants him for his wacky mind, and not just for his body. I think they need someone to calm Brian Cardinal down...or just to make him look calmed down by comparison."
Laan reportedly has close to 50 colleges interested, but will wait until mid-August to start getting the list down to a managable number. Purdue is making a big man a priority in the rising senior class.
Purdue is also among the final five for 6'11 rising senior center Lance Allred from Salt Lake City East. Utah leads for this big man, but still in the hunt are Kansas, Stanford, Purdue and BYU.
