It wasn't THE Indiana All-Star team that got routed by an Illinois team on Saturday, but a group of region kids lost to a strong Illinois team 137-104 at the Fifth-Annual Illinois/Indiana Roundball Classic. Leading the way for Indiana was Weber State bound Jermaine Boyette (Hammond) with 28, followed by Bowling Green bound Len Matela (Andrean) with 21, and East Chicago Central junior Carlton Baker with 16. Willie Davis also added 7 points on a two-pointer, a three-pointer and two freethrows. For Illinois, it was a pair of Depaul recruits combining for 68 points. Simeon's Bobby Simmons scored a game-high 35 points with 5 from the perimeter, and Chicago Julian's Lance Williams with 33 points and 11 rebounds.
