The status of Cameron Stephens and Jamaal Davis should be a little clearer within the next week. NCAA rules require Prop48 students to maintain a 1.8 grade point average in 24 credit hours of class their freshman year to be able to qualify for their sophomore season. The NCAA also requires Prop48s to complete 75% of those hours during the fall and spring semesters. If Cam or Jamaal make the 18 hour hurdle, they will still have to pass 6 additional hours this summer with a cumulative GPA of 1.8 or better. One of three things will happen within the next week...one or both Prop48s will reach the 24 hour - 1.8 GPA mark at the end of the spring semester, making them qualified for the 98=99 season...one or both Prop48s will reach the 18 hour - 1.8 GPA mark, sending the players into summer classes hoping to pick up an additional 6 hours...or, one or both players will fail to make the 18 hour mark, making qualification for the fall impossible. Sources indicate that the situation is too close to call.
