Illinois freshman forward Awvee Storey has been released from his scholarship, freeing up a spot for the Illini to offer a big man. The Illini have a scholarship offer currently out for 6'11 Fork Union Millitary Academy senior Soloman Hughes, but Hughes is in no hurry to visit anyone yet. As a result, the Illini coaching staff is expected to offer 6'10 Robert Archibald the open scholarship during his visit this weekend. If he takes it, the Illini will be done with Hughes. Two days ago we heard rumors that Archibald's list was down to just Missouri and Illinois, a rumor that was confirmed today by his coach.
Indications point to the Purdue men being finished with recruiting for this year, counting on prop48 recruits Jamaal Davis and Cameron Stephens to stay on track to qualify. If they do qualify, the Purdue frontline will consist of a 6'11, three 6'8 and two 6'7 players, all very athletic. In this case, incoming freshman 6'11 center John Allison will likely redshirt. Not only does he need to bulk up and work on his offensive game, he will also be in freshman engineering which is no picnic. Being a former assistant for Physics 152 lab, I would pity anyone having to do both basketball and freshman engineering at the same time. It can be done though with a good amount of focus and determination.
Midwest Recruiting is reporting that Brandon Kurtz will sign with Tulsa.
