Mackey Magic was the host for a handful of basketball prospects last week, some known names, and some new names.
Anthony Oates from Yapavai JC in Arizona officially visited, and joins Gary McQuay as a signing option in the spring. Among the high schoolers that were seen in Mackey, was 6'10 John Stewart, who will play for Lawrence North this season. Stewart, although still raw, weighs close to 290 pounds. Down from East Chicago Central were 6'7 Ricky Wright and 6'5 Carlton Baker. Both considered to be Top100 caliber recruits, Wright is more likely to qualify to play his freshman year. Carlton and Wright played summer AAU on the same Spiece team as Kenny Lowe and Austin Parkinson. Wright will be in competition for a spot on the Boiler squad with 6'7 Gary West High junior Vincent Hart, who also was at the first practice. Northwestern High point guard Austin Parkinson did make it to Mackey Magic, but North Central point man Jason Gardner did not. Gardner was rumored to be coming, but the accuracy of those rumors are questionable. Gardner had planned to be in North Carolina that weekend with friends, and ended up at Cameron on the Duke campus.
