From all indications, 6'2 Chauncey Jones from Wabash Valley JC is the #1 junior college target for the point guard position. The main competition will come from Cincinnati for this talented floor leader, who are waiting on an official decision from their #1 point prospect 6'1 Michael Horton from Allegany JC. Minnesota also has Jones on their list and reportedly will offer if they are unable to sign Khalid El-Amin as originally planned. Rumors abound that El-Amin might have lost the favor of Clem because of his off-the-court behavior.
The next point guard on Purdue's list is 6'3 Bernard Smith, who will verbal to Kansas if and when they offer a scholarship. In his way is the decision of California super guard Baron Davis who once verballed to UCLA only to back out when Coach Harrick was fired. Davis is thought to still go to UCLA now that the coaching situation has stabilized. If this happens, Smith will likely be scooped up by Kansas.
Behind Jones and Smith on Purdue's list is 6'2 Charles Neal from Florida Community College. Neal is beginning to get major attention from a variety of schools. The Purdue staff is said to be confident one of the three players above will end up a Boilermaker.
The remaining senior point guard candidate on Purdue's list is 6'0 Kevin Bradley, one of a handful of quality point guards in California this year. Keady seems to be more interested in the increased experience of a juco player and Bradley is rumored to be favoring staying out west. In all, none of the above players would be a bad choice.
