Women's Recruiting Update: Purdue offers Moore?

Purdue offers Moore?

Purdue has reportedly offered a scholarship to wing Amber Moore of Detroit Country Day, according to the Detroit News. The 5'11 junior also has offers from DePaul, Michigan, and Michigan State. An all-state first team selection by the Associated Press in 2006, Moore also came away with camp MVP awards at both the Michigan State and Michigan summer elite camps. She is regarded as the top player in the 2009 class in Michigan along side another Purdue prospect, Destiny Williams of Benton Harbor. As a sophomore, Moore was ranked the 8th-best player in the state in any class by the Detroit News, averaging 15 points, four rebounds and four assists for a 23-3 season. As a freshman, Moore averaged 16 points and seven rebounds to lead Country Day to a 25-1 record. She carries a 3.5 gpa, and plans to major in athletic training or sports management.

A word of caution on "offers" reported in the media. As we saw with Natalie Novosel earlier this year, sometimes media reports of offers do not necessarily refer to scholarship offers from the Purdue staff. Reports of "offers" should be considered as interest, as only the staff has a clear knowledge of the offers and recruiting priorities at any given time. A good rule of thumb to remember is Coach Versyp prefers to extend scholarship offers in person, which generally means juniors and younger have to make a campus visit before that can happen.

Big Ten Recruiting

Indiana has received commitments from two players from the class of 2008. St. Petersburg (FL) Catholic's Sasha Chaplin, a 6'3 post player, chose Indiana over South Florida. She also considered and visited Temple. Chaplin was an all-state first team selection as a junior. Indiana also received a verbal commitment from 6'2 power forward Danilsa Andujar of Dillard High in Florida. Andujar averaged 6.1 points and 5.5 rebounds as a junior. Andujar chose Indiana over offers from Troy and Western Carolina, and interest from Arkansas, Georgetown, South Carolina, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, and Florida State.

This past Tuesday, Iowa received their fourth commitment for the class of 2008. Kamille Wahlin, a 5'8 point guard from Crookston (MN), chose Iowa during a campus visit over North Dakota State, North Dakota, Wisconsin-Green Bay and Kansas. Wahlin set up three official visits to Iowa, North Dakota State, and North Dakota. She visited Iowa the same weekend as AAU teammate and fellow Iowa verbal Hannah Draxten. Averaging 19.9 points and five assists as a junior, Wahlin is currently Crookston's all-time scoring leader with 1,660 career points. She plans to major in education.

Six-foot-one senior Courtney Schiffauer of Boardman High (OH) has committed to Michigan State. She averaged 21.3 points, 8.9 rebounds and 7.1 assists as a junior, and 18.1 points as a sophomore. Schiffauer carries a 3.2 grade-point average and chose Michigan State over Kent State, Marist College, Ohio University and Penn State.

Next update: Michigan, Ohio State and Northwestern.
