Faris surpasses 1000 kills and digs

Kelly Faris has surpassed 1000 career kills and digs in late September, setting school records in the process. In a recent article in the Indianapolis Star, the Heritage Christian outside hitter is seeing basketball coaches show up at her volleyball games. According to the Star, coaches from DePaul, Duke, Florida State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Stanford, and Wisconsin have all been seen scouting her during volleyball practice or games. Faris recently paid the Purdue campus another unofficial visit when she visited for Purdue football's win over Notre Dame.

The article also stated, while originally flirting with the idea of playing both volleyball and basketball in college, she will concentrate on her first love, which is basketball.

Purdue on Hackney's list

Purdue is on the list of an Ohio player no stranger to championships. Kendall Hackney, 6'2 junior of Mt. Notre Dame in Ohio, led her team with a double-double of 21 points and 14 rebounds to the 2007 Ohio Division I State Championship. It was Mt. Notre Dame's second in a row, and third championship in four years. Hackney was named the state championship MVP for the second straight year.

A member of the National Honor Society, Hackney averaged 6.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks as a freshman, nearly doubling that output her sophomore year.

Recent visitors

Along with Kelly Faris, fellow 2009 target Emilee Harmon of Pickerington (OH) has also recently come to campus for a repeat visit. Harmon visited on September 22nd for the Central Michigan game.

The class of 2009 looks to be shaping up as a special class for Purdue, considering the number of top players that have placed Purdue on their lists. Added to the players currently listed on our OGFP prospect page are 6'2 post Jasmine Hassell of Lebanon (TN) and 5'6 point guard Jessica Goswitz of Knoxville (TN). Hassell lists Florida, Purdue and Vanderbilt among others, while Goswitz is looking at Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Notre Dame, Purdue, South Carolina, and Vanderbilt. With six scholarships available in 2009 and only one taken so far by Sam Ostarello, the staff does not lack for interest in the five remaining.

Big Ten Recruiting

We have had several players commit to Big Ten programs over the past month, and we will be updating over the next few days.

We start with another 2008 guard for Wisconsin. Jade Davis, a 5'8 guard from Highlands Ranch High in Colorado, averaged 12 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 4.0 assists per game her junior season for the Falcons, who have won back-to-back Class 5A titles.

Penn State has also added a guard for 2008. Renee Womack, a 5'10 wing guard from Methacton High School (PA), chose Penn State over Marquette, Delaware, Dayton, Massachusetts, and Villanova. As a junior, Womack averaged 16.4 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.7 steals, 2.0 blocks and 1.9 assists.
