    Purdue adds Spanish forward

A couple months ago we heard the Purdue staff was looking at four players that might be able to join the team for the upcoming 2006-07 season. Last week, one of those players jumped onboard. Laura Garriga, a 6'1 wing, played for Siglo XXI of the Spanish Federation of Basketball averaging 14 points and seven rebounds. Garriga chose Purdue over interest from Minnesota, Vermont and New Mexico.

    Michigan season begins

The teams of two Purdue prospects, one committed prospect and one potential prospect, are profiled in this article by the Detroit News. The state of Michigan holds girl's basketball as a fall sport, so players like Keisha Mosley, Keshia Hines and Kelli Watson will be beginning play in a week. We will post high school schedules as they arrive from the athletic departments.

In the article below, Hines lists Purdue, Indiana and Western Kentucky, but it is unknown if the recent commitment of Keisha Mosley has changed Purdue's recruitment of Hines.

    Lawless to ISU

A player we have been following for a while here in OGFP, Taylor Lawless, has committed to Illinois State. A cousin to current Boilermaker forward Erin Lawless, Taylor was being scouted by some Big Ten programs but retore her ACL in her right knee on June 13th. The 6'1 Taylor is a 1,000-point scorer, and averaged 11.0 points and 6.3 rebounds per game as a junior.

    Ramblings

"You cannot guard her one-on-one; teams had to guard her with two or three people." -- Former Detroit head coach Nkwane Young on Lakeisha Mosley.

    Big Ten Recruiting

Ebony Jackson, a 6'0 wing from the class of 2007, has committed to Indiana University. As a junior at Arlington High in Indianapolis, Jackson averaged 17.7 points and 10.2 rebounds and was named first team all-Indianapolis.

Another 2007 player, 6'3 power forward Evelyn Lewis from Hampton High (VA), has committed to Penn State. Lewis averaged 17 points and seven rebounds per game last season and helped lead the Crabbers to the Peninsula District regular-season and tournament titles, as well as the Eastern Region semifinals.
