PURDUE WOMENS BASKETBALL RECRUITING:
Women's Recruiting Update: More visitors Friday

    Two unofficials on Friday

Two visitors to campus Friday described as "big time" players will be making unofficial visits. The two class of 2007 players will be on campus Friday and Saturday.

A source indicates one of the visitors is Lykendra Johnson of Trinity HS (IL). She is said to be making a visit along with her uncle, Russell Cross, a former Boilermaker center for the men's basketball team at the beginning of the 80s.

    Last week's visitor confirmed

It has been confirmed that last week's visitor was indeed Samantha Woods for Bolingbrook HS (IL).

    More 2008s

One thing is for certain, Purdue's new staff is going after the midwest's top players. Two more players have drawn the interest of the Purdue staff.

Amber Gray, a 6-foot-1 forward from Lakota West HS (OH), is rated as the nation's top wing player by All Star Girls Report. Gray's summer team, Cincinnati's Finest, was runner-up for the Adidas 16U National Championship in July. Her summer teammate, Brianna Sanders, was mentioned here last week as a new 2009 target for Purdue.

Gray finished her sophomore season at Lakota West averaging 21.5 points per game, 11.3 rebounds and 2.2 steals, shooting .560 from the field and .719 from the freethrow line. She set single-season school records for points (516) and rebounds (271). Amber is the daughter of former NFL Colts cornerback Carlton Gray, who is an assistant coach on the staff of the Lakota West football and girl's basketball teams.

Also on the list is 6-foot-2 Kellie Watson of Ionia High (MI). Watson is a two-time Class B all-state player, and once scored 52 points in a Michigan 11U AAU tournament game. She averaged 17 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two blocks last season. As a freshman, she averaged 18.3 points, 9.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. Watson has already unofficially visited Michigan, Michigan State and Notre Dame.

Watson has played from the point to the paint, but projects as a tough matchup at two-guard. She was a 5'6 point guard in junior high, then grew six inches in one summer to 6'0.
