Purdue head coach Sharon Versyp may have lost a commitment from the state's top senior this past week, but today gained a commitment from the state's top sophomore.

Attica High's Brittany Rayburn has given Purdue an oral commitment. The 5'11 guard is regarded as the best player in Indiana's class of 2008, recently being chosen as the only sophomore on the Associated Press All-State honor teams. Rayburn was also named the Journal and Courier Small School Player-of-the-Year and is a two-time Sectional MVP.

Rayburn averaged 24.4 points, 8.7 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 3.6 steals and 2.6 blocks per game as a sophomore, helping Attica to the IHSAA Class A semistate and an overall record of 23-3. As a freshman, she averaged 17.0 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists. In between her first two high school seasons, she helped her AAU team to a 14-under national title.

Rayburn cannot officially sign with Purdue until November of 2007. She chose Purdue over heavy attention from UCONN, Tennessee and Duke.
