PURDUE WOMENS BASKETBALL RECRUITING:
2006 Indiana Miss Basketball: Amber Harris

When Indianapolis North Central lost in sectional action last month, the question being asked was whether two state championships in previous years would be enough to hold off the strong senior season of Indianapolis Pike guard Ashley Barlow in the Indiana Miss Basketball race.

Sunday brought the answer, and the award, to Amber Harris.

Amber Harris has been named the 2006 Indiana Miss Basketball, taking 60 of the 200 ballots cast. Harris averaged 16.8 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists for Panthers, who finished the season with an 18-5 record. Harris also was second in the state in blocked shots per game, and was the runaway leader in dunks. More to the point, the only Indiana high school player to dunk in a game, and Amber Harris accomplished that feat eight times.

Harris will be the third Indiana Miss Basketball on the Boilermaker squad, joining 2003 winner Katie Gearlds and 2005 winner Jodi Howell.
